“The technical issue affecting the transformers that power the Harohalli and TK Halli pumping stations, following heavy rains and lightning on Wednesday evening, has been resolved and power restored,” said Ram Prasath Manohar, chairman of the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB).

In a press release, Mr. Manohar said that the power lines supplying electricity to these pumping stations were struck by lightning late on Wednesday evening, around 11:00 pm, which caused power failure to key stations responsible for providing water to Bengaluru. As a result, water pumping is stopped.

Personnel of Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) and BWSSB coordinated quickly, working through the night in difficult weather conditions to carry out emergency repairs and successfully fixed the technical problems, he added.

The power outage resulted in a 10-hour shutdown of pumping operations. Although the pumping process has now resumed, the city may experience water interruptions in certain areas due to this outage.

Mr. Manohar lauded the efforts of KPTCL and BWSSB officials who worked tirelessly in adverse weather conditions to restore power and fix technical problems.

On the other hand, due to moderate to heavy rainfall in parts of the city, commuters faced inconvenience. Several roads were flooded and motorists found it difficult to navigate through the waterlogged roads. According to the dispatcher of the BBMP, four trees fell due to wind. Several areas also experienced power outages.
