DUBAI: Captain Haley Matthews and her initial partner Kiana Joseph hit fine half-centuries as West Indies registered a huge six-wicket win over England to advance to the semi-finals of Women’s T20 World Cup here on Tuesday. England were thrown out of the show after the defeat.
Mathews (50 off 38 balls) and Joseph (52 off 38 balls) shared 102 runs for the opening wicket in 12.2 overs to take the match away from England as West Indies chased down a target of 142 with 12 balls to spare.
Both came out in quick succession, but Deandra DottinWest Indies’ 27 off 19 balls ensured they reached 142 for 4 in 18 overs.
South Africa will face Group A winners and defending champions Australia in the first semi-final on Thursday, while the West Indies will face Group A runners-up New Zealand in the second semi-final on Friday.
West Indies finished their league engagements with six points from four matches, the same as South Africa and England. But the Caribbean has the highest net performance ratio of +1.504, followed by South Africa (+1.382). England, who finished with an NRR of +1.117, finished third in Group B and were eliminated.

India have already been eliminated from the semi-final race after finishing third in Group A.
Battered, England fell to 34 for 3 just after the powerplay but recovered to 141 for 7 with Nat Sciver-Brunt top scorer with 57 not out from 50 balls while captain Heather Knight retired hurt with 21 from 13 balls.
For West Indies, leg spinner Affie Fletcher took three wickets for 21 runs from his four overs while Hayley Mathews claimed two scalps.

England: 141 for 7 in 20 overs (Nat Siver-Brunt 57 not out; Affie Fletcher 3/21).
West Indies: 142 for 4 in 18 overs (Hayley Matthews 50, Kiana Joseph 52; Sarah Glenn 1/20).
