Women Defeat Boys in Ugadi Wrestling Bouts in Nirmal

ADILABAD: Three women defeated male opponents in wrestling bouts held throughout Ugadi celebrations at Kubheer mandal headquarters in Nirmal district on Thursday.

Rohini, 17, from Pusad in Maharashtra, Neha, 11, from Haryana, and Sayeeshwari, 13, from Nanded in Maharashtra received matches towards boys of their respective age teams on the occasion organised by the Vittaleshwara Temple Committee and the gram panchayat.

Organisers stated round 150 wrestlers from Telangana, Maharashtra and Haryana participated within the competitors, a standard characteristic of Ugadi celebrations within the area.

Spectators gathered in massive numbers, cheering the contributors as the women competed towards male wrestlers in bouts performed to the beat of conventional drums.

Winners had been awarded prize cash starting from ₹500 to ₹1,000 together with trophies.

Native representatives stated wrestling, regionally often called ‘kusti’, stays a preferred sport in border areas of Telangana and Maharashtra, with akhadas coaching each girls and boys and often internet hosting competitions.

The occasion drew participation from wrestlers throughout age teams and highlighted rising involvement of women within the sport.
